Add Your Follow Up Boss Pixel with Google Tag Manager

Ruuster has no pixel field, but you can fire the Follow Up Boss Pixel on your pages from your Google Tag Manager container.

Ruuster has no field for the Follow Up Boss Pixel. You can still run it on your pages: save your Google Tag Manager container ID in Ruuster, then fire the pixel from that container as a Custom HTML tag.

Your leads and property activity already reach Follow Up Boss through the CRM integration. The pixel adds browsing telemetry on top of that. It never replaces it.

Before you start

  • Ruuster admin. Only admins can save a Google Tag Manager (GTM) container ID.

  • Google Tag Manager access. Edit rights on your brokerage's container.

  • Follow Up Boss admin. Needed to copy the pixel code.

  • Follow Up Boss already connected. If it is not, do that first in Integrate Follow Up Boss with Ruuster.

1. Copy the pixel code from Follow Up Boss

  1. Sign in to Follow Up Boss as an admin.

  2. Select Admin, then the Overview tab.

  3. Scroll to Integrations and open Pixel.

  4. Copy the code exactly, including the <script> tags.

Your team has one pixel, and the same code works on every site. Follow Up Boss separates the activity by domain, so you do not need a second pixel for Ruuster.

2. Turn off form capture in Follow Up Boss

On that same Pixel page, switch the pixel's form capture setting off.

Ruuster already sends your leads through the CRM integration. With form capture on as well, both paths create the same person, so you get duplicate contacts and a split lead source.

3. Add your Google Tag Manager container to Ruuster

  1. Open Ruuster at your branded address (format: https://yourcompany.ruuster.com).

  2. Click your username in the top right, then Account Settings.

  3. Scroll to Connect your Google Tag Manager.

  4. Enter your container ID in the Your Google tag ID field. It looks like GTM-XXXXXXXXXX.

  5. Click Save Changes.

Once an ID is saved, a Delete GTM tag button appears next to the field.

There is one container ID per brokerage, and it loads for every visitor to your Ruuster pages. If you already have an ID saved here for ads or analytics, add the pixel to that container instead of swapping the ID.

4. Create the pixel tag in Google Tag Manager

  1. Open your container and select Tags, then New.

  2. Choose Custom HTML as the tag type.

  3. Paste the pixel code unchanged, including the <script> tags.

  4. Leave Support document.write unchecked.

  5. Under Triggering, choose Initialization - All Pages.

  6. In Advanced Settings, set Tag firing options to Once per page.

  7. Name the tag "Follow Up Boss Pixel" and click Save.

Running a consent banner? Use your consent-aware initialization trigger instead, so the banner does not strip the pixel.

5. Publish and check it

  1. Click Submit, then Publish.

  2. Open Preview and load one of your Ruuster pages.

  3. Confirm the tag appears under Tags Fired.

  4. In Follow Up Boss, open a test lead and look for site activity on their timeline.

Allow a few minutes for the first activity to land. The tag firing in Preview plus a visit on the lead's timeline means it worked.

Good to know

  • This screen is moving. In Ruuster's new navigation the same field lives on the Integrations page under Admin. The ID and everything else here are unchanged, only the location.

  • Read property history from the custom fields. Every property view, favorite, saved search and tour reaches Follow Up Boss through the CRM integration and lands in the Ruuster fields on the record. That is the complete history, and it counts every view.

  • Email is the key. The pixel recognizes someone once it knows their email, which happens when they arrive from a Follow Up Boss email or identify themselves on your site.

  • Blind spots. Visitors who sign in with Google or Facebook cannot be matched, and link shorteners strip the tracking parameters off shared links.

  • Do not double-install. If the pixel is already on your marketing site and you load that site's container on Ruuster, check that it is not added twice.

  • Use your own container. A container shared with another company would put their tags on your clients' pages.

  • Deleting the ID stops everything. Traffic on your landing page and search results stops being measured until you add another ID. To remove only the pixel, delete its tag in Google Tag Manager instead.

FAQ

Can I paste the Follow Up Boss pixel straight into Ruuster?

No. Ruuster has no field for pixel code. The Google Tag Manager container is the supported way to run your own tracking scripts on your Ruuster pages.

I already use my container for ads. Can I add the pixel to it?

Yes. One container holds as many tags as you need, and Ruuster stores only one container ID, so add the pixel as another tag in the container you already use.

Why is my lead's Follow Up Boss timeline thinner than I expected?

The pixel can only attribute activity once it knows the person's email, so browsing before that stays anonymous. The full property history sits in the Ruuster panel and custom fields on their record.

Should I turn form capture on so the pixel catches my Ruuster signups?

No. Those leads already arrive through the CRM integration, and running both creates duplicate contacts.

Do my agents need to do anything?

No. An admin sets this up once for the brokerage and it applies to all of your Ruuster pages.
